Leicestershire Men's 1 Away @ Loughborough Leys 2. O.G's Won 6-3

A thrilling match saw the most experienced pairing of Nigel Lewis & Mitch Smart take a valiant 1 game, Whilst second pair Neil & Neil took 2 games with a classic blend of both containing and ferocious attack play. The remainder of the plaudits went to John Munton & Matt Clough who took all three games as third pair, showing those Loughborough whipping boys how it should be done!!!. happy times prevailed, so we found the nearest boozer and drank to our hearts content, well as far as £15 goes between 6.

Leicestershire Men's 2 away @ Loughborough. O.G's lost 6-3

Sporting a full compliment of players the spirited second team took to the court determined to make up for the disappointing finish to last season, with the star pairing of John Munton & Neil Hunt a victory was a foregone conclusion, so you'd think!!. The star pairing managed to take 0 games and even worse had the humiliation of Messrs Walker & Schmidt taking two games and even the chuckle brothers (John H & Nev) taking 1. After winning 2 games Tim almost had the beers lined up at the ensuing celebrations, unfortunately know one else was bothered, so home it was.

Leicestershire Mixed 1 Vs Mixed 2. Mixed 1 Won 5-4

The first mixed match of the season saw the firsts and seconds take court, the firsts sporting a team devoid of "Pedro Sanders" so in stepped a more than willing, but ever so slightly less able Matt Clough. The first game saw established pairing Paul Gough & Jane Roberts beat John Munton & Julie in 2. An epic encounter saw Mitch & Lisa take the second game in 3 against Matt & Margaret. Then up stepped Nigel Lewis & Lynn Hume, Lewis looked sluggish to start, no doubt still digesting a Zinger Tower meal from the services at junction 21. With Paul & Jane taking all 3 it was down to the husband & wife combo Mr & Mrs Dodes to seal the victory taking 2 crucial games, leaving an exhibition match between Lewis/Hume & the luckless Clough/Roskell. All agreed that the best team won, apart from all the 2nd's. Maybe their fortunes would change in the return?!!!

Leicestershire Mixed 2 Vs Mixed 1. Mixed 1 Won 5-4

As the gladiators assembled once again, seeing the return of "Pedro Sanders" (He plays well for a Spanish waiter), know one was happier than Margaret to play with someone who didn't need to stop for oxygen after the warm up. Normal service was resumed with Pedro & Margaret taking 2 crucial games. Whilst Munton keen to improve on his first men's 2 appearance this season again failed to trouble the scorecard, losing all 3 matches with his partner Julie. With Mixed 2 apparently down and out all hopes turned to Mitch & Lisa who gave a sterling performance once again, but would they be victorious?? In short NO. Husband & Wife Neil & Jenny again took 2 games leaving only Paul & Jane to take 1 game to seal an impressive double for the 1st team. Rumour has it that Nigel was slightly less sluggish, he must have had a McDonalds on the way instead.

Melton League, O.G's Mixed 1 @ home to Staveley. O.G's Lost 5-4

A blend of acne & experience took to the court in the first Melton mixed match of the season. Pairings saw the young pretender Sam playing with Ladies club captain Alison, Sam impressed in his first match of the season and was rewarded by taking 1 game off the vastly experienced Staveley team. Also playing her first match for O.G's was Charlotte paired with George, they again took 1 game, leaving the ever young pairing of Nev & Christine to try and take all 3 to win, unfortunately Nev had mistakenly placed his plasterers float in his bag and not his racket, but successfully took 2 games. Melton lost by 1 in a tight match. There's always next time!!

Leicester Men's 2 away to Ashby. O.G's Won 8-1

Having lost all 3 with Munton last time out, Hunt requested a change of partner and was rewarded with an evening with Pedro sanders, Just to confirm the weak link Pedro & Neil took all 3, only after taking one of the games to 3 ends. The Chuckle Brothers Nev & John H decided to join the club and chipped in with 3 games, with John feeling right at home bashing a piece of plastic around the court and Neville opting for a racket this time round. This left Messrs Walker & Schmidt to bring the Oggy's a first 9-0 of the season, unfortunately after their exertions in the previous match they ran out of steam and only took 2. Tim so frustrated at taking 2 left in a huff and went straight home without a dose of liquid refreshment.

Leicester Men's 1@ home to Loughborough 2. O.G's lost 6-3

The tone was set when captain Lewis arrived late claiming "He was knackered". things didn't get any better when the reunited pairing of Pedro Sanders (Student) & Paul Gough were outplayed and out witted by the travelling first pair. All there knew that that Munton & Clough would take all three "How they where wrong" Munton & Clough lost in 2 leaving only the Consistent (Consistently S**T) serving of Smart and the boyish enthusiasm of Lewis to beat a pair half their ages in 3, giving the home team a sniff of success. Pedro & Paul then blitzed past the 3rd pair, whilst Munton & Clough again failed to trouble the Loughborough first pair. Once again it was down to Smart & Lewis to keep the Oggy's in contention, but Smarts serving reached an all time career low as serve after serve either popped up saying Merry Christmas or failed to pass the net (Sorry Mitch) resulting in a loss. All remaining 3 were needed for victory, Lewis rallied his troops in a Winston Churchill like fashion and the brave soldiers of the O.G's took to the challenge, but failed miserably, all apart from Munton & Clough who won their last in 2. We went to the bar and stroked our bruised Ego's, and watched the poverty stricken Student Sanders wave his N.U.S. card at anything he might have to pay for before paying his £2 match fee and leaving to do his P.C. Plod Homework.

Melton Mixed @ home to Bottesford Mixed. O.G's lost 6-3

A youthful looking mixed team saw the rising stars of O.G's B.C. pitch their wits against a largely experienced bottesford side. Tim & Abbie were the star pairing of the evening winning 2 rubbers to give the Oggy's a chance of snatching their fisrt victory of the season. Neville paired with Charlotte put up a spirited display against the experienced opposition and won 1 rubber for their efforts, in only Charlotte's second game of the season. Paired with Margaret young Sam battled hard but to no avail, all were impressed with the determination of Sam and his youthful counterparts. Tim went to the bar happy to have continued his rich vein of form whilst the kids went to charge their I-pod nano's (whatever they are).

Hunts & Cambridgeshire Tournament Some Time In January

Held in Stamford and sporting 18 men's pairings and 9 ladies pairings the Melton O.G's came out in force to steal the show. Representing the ladies were Margaret & Jenny, unfortunately not making it through the group but putting up a sterling performance non the less. 3 men's pairs from Melton entered Namely Paul & Paul, Mitch & Nigel, Matt & Neil. With Paul/Paul & Mitch/Nigel making it through as runners up in the group stages. Whilst Matt/Neil won their group unbeaten. The first quarter final of the night saw O.G's Pairings Paul/Paul play Matt/Neil with a 2 point start Neil & Matt blew the bash twins away taking it 21-14 to progress to the semi's. In the other quarter final Mitch/Nigel progressed with ease.

Semi Final 1: Matt/Neil won their semi 21-14 putting them through to the final
Semi final 2: Mitch/Nigel won 21-17

The Final: Starting from scratch it was the peoples favourites Matt/Neil who got off to the better start but Lewis and smart clawed their way back with some cheating and typically poor line calling form Lewis. The game swung in Lewis & Smarts favour taking them to 20-17 score and serving for the match, Smart blew his chance and began to look rattled. Dodes & Clough pegged the score back to 20-20 with the first paring to go 2 points clear taking the title. After an epic battle it was Mitch/Nigel who took the plaudits edging the game 22-20, all agreed that the best pairing lost. £10 each went to the victors, £5 to the runners-up. Thanks must go to Kevin Barron for organising the tournament and also to all that took part in a great night of Badminton.

Melton O.G's mens 1 Vs Loughborough Mens 2. O.G's Won 5-4

Revenge is a dish best served cold, Having lost 6-3 in the home tie the men's 1st team were up for the challenge. Sporting a full compliment Captain Lewis had his troops rallied as they attempt promotion for a season in the top flight, anything but victory would surely of ended any chance of promotion. Paul & Paul showed the form which had been sadly lacking for most of the season and devoured the helpless pairings of Loughborough including one cracker of a game against the second pair finished in style by Sanders with the aid of the racket frame. Lewis & Smart took the obligatory 1 game as did Clough & Dodes. It was only after the final whistle that the opposing Captain hailed excuses of exhaustion & fatigue (You lost, deal with it!!). happy days were here again, with it the sniff of promotion, with this in mind the Wetherspoons in Melton provided the perfect watering hole to once again stroke our overinflated ego's.

Welcome to the Melton O.G's Badminton website.

Melton O.G's is Melton's largest badminton Club. With over 40 adult members and over 25 juniors members, Melton O.G's is the only club in Melton to play with feather shuttles, and enjoys an active social base between members with frequent varied events organised via our Entertainments & events Committee. We are always seeking new members to join our club and welcome people of all ages and standards, for more info contact our Secretary contact information. with club nights every Monday why not pop in and give it a try?

Full Adult membership: £100 inclusive of all club nights and registration with the B.A of E & L.B.A.

Students or under 18s: £50 inclusive of all club nights and registration with B.A of E & L.B.A.

Guest fees: Guest fees for club nights are £5 per night upto a maximum of three nights, intermediates via agreement.

Juniors Fees: £1.50 per child per night see juniors section

Match Fees: Matches both home and away are charged @ £4 per player and £2 for students and under 18s.

Melton O.G's currently has one of the largest junior clubs in Melton. After receiving a National Lottery Grant several years ago, we are now able to offer all the training & playing equipment necessary to inspire your kids into playing badminton more often.

whether it's your child's first time playing or has played at school our fully trained coaches will be happy to aid them in their development and understanding of this enjoyable game, whilst naturally improving key skills like Hand-2-Eye coordination & socialising with other children. As well as our evening sessions children are encouraged to take part in specially organised junior tournaments competing against surrounding clubs in both Melton Mowbray & other parts of Leicestershire.

Junior sessions are held every Monday until notice @ the King Edward VII Upper School (Old Hall) from 7-8pm, fees are £1.50 per child for the hour. please contact our club secretary Christine Stanley via contact information for further information.
